5 Ways to Connect with us Online

In light of COVID-19, all of our upcoming events for the next few months have been cancelled. But there are many ways that you can still continue to engage with the Photography Ethics Centre while social distancing! Here are 5 great ways to connect with us online:

  1. Join our online training. Our first online training course is available for free! It is an intro course to the fundamentals of photography ethics, and it is applicable to anyone who takes and share photographs. And in the next couple of weeks, we will be releasing our second online training course! This will be the first of 3 advanced courses specifically designed for photojournalists and documentary photographers. Be sure to sign up for updates if you would like to be notified when it is released.

  2. Catch up on our content. We have a number of articles available on online that you can add to your self-isolation reading list. You can also catch up on our Photo Ethics on Film video series! In each of these videos, we will look at an example from a film or television programme of a situation that you might find yourself in as a photographer. We will talk about the ethical dilemmas that are presented in each situation, and we will discuss ways that you could ethically navigate similar situations in the future.

  3. Get ready for our podcast. We had planned to start The Photo Ethics Podcast later in the year, but this period of self-isolation has given us an opportunity to set the wheels in motion! In this podcast, Savannah Dodd will invite accomplished photographers to discuss the ethics of their practice. We will hear about how these photographers’ experiences have shaped they way that they use their camera, how they have handled difficult situations, and why they photograph what they photograph. Stay tuned for the release date, or sign up for updates if you would like to be notified when it is released.

  4. Host a virtual event. Although live events are currently on hold while people take important measures to reduce their chances of spreading this virus, many institutions are offering virtual lectures. If you are an academic or arts institution that normally provides workshops or lectures, we can provide your audience with an engaging virtual lecture on photography ethics as it pertains to their work. Get in touch if you would like more information.

  5. Become a patron. Becoming a patron comes with some great benefits, like free tuition for all of our online training courses and one-to-one chats on our Photo Ethics Advice Line! It is also a fantastic way to support a young social enterprise at a time of financial hardship. Please consider registering today at Patreon.
